Teaching an AI to Debug Our Cloud: AWS DevOps Agent in Practice
Roman Jokel, Cloud Architect, Raiffeisen Bank International; Mladen Trampic, Senior Technical Account Manager, AWS
AWS DevOps Agent is AWS's AI-powered teammate for operations - it investigates incidents, correlates logs/metrics/traces/deployments, proposes mitigations, and learns your environment over time through custom skills and memory. In this talk, we'll walk through what it can actually do, how we rolled it out across our AWS organization, the custom skills we built to teach it our environment (networking, IAM, account provisioning, firewall logs, and more), and the real incidents it has helped us resolve. We'll close with the honest lessons learned - what worked, what surprised us, and what we'd do differently - so you can walk away with a realistic picture of what AI-assisted operations looks like in practice, not just in theory.
About Roman Jokel
Roman Jokel is a Cloud Architect at Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) in Vienna, where he works on the bank's AWS cloud foundation, including automating landing zone operations with AWS Step Functions in RBI's Cloud Center of Excellence. He has presented RBI's cloud work at AWS Summit Zurich 2024 and AWS Summit Hamburg 2025, holds the AWS Solutions Architect - Professional, Advanced Networking - Specialty and Security - Specialty certifications, and is a co-organizer of the AWS User Group Vienna.
About Mladen Trampic
Mladen Trampic is a Senior Technical Account Manager for AWS Enterprise Support EMEA in Vienna, where he helps customers architect for reliability and cost efficiency. Before AWS he was a Data Lake Solution Architect at Raiffeisen Bank International. He has co-authored AWS blog posts on Session Manager logging guardrails in a multi-account environment and on how Flo Health optimized Amazon DynamoDB, and he writes about Kiro CLI, MCP and AI-assisted development on his blog.
I don't trust my agents!
Darko Mesaroš, Principal Technologist, AWS
Your AI agent works great in the demo. Then you deploy it and it hallucinates a refund policy, exposes customer data, or just loops endlessly burning tokens. This session walks through a layered approach to agent safety using tools like Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and the Strands Agents SDK: guardrails, observability, multi-agent safety patterns, and reference architectures you can adapt immediately.
About Darko Mesaroš
I am a computer person who writes Rust, breaks things on AWS, and collects computers older than most of my audience. By title I'm a Principal Developer Advocate, by practice I'm live-coding on Twitch or convincing a 1974 minicomputer to do something useful. I build CLI tools nobody asked for but everyone ends up using, blog about Rust and cloud development right here, and firmly believe the terminal is the best UI ever made. I'm happiest when a demo works on the first try, which almost never happens.
I also care deeply about developer productivity and coding assistants. I spend an unreasonable amount of time teaching AI agents to be better coding companions, building MCP servers, and automating everything that stands still long enough. If there's a way to make developers faster and happier, I'm probably already tinkering with it.

About this meetup
Autumn is arriving in Vienna - and so is our next AWS meetup!
In this October edition, we’ll explore what AI-assisted cloud operations looks like in practice: from using AWS DevOps Agent to investigate incidents, correlate signals, and support real DevOps workflows, to building safer and more trustworthy AI agents for production. Our speakers will share hands-on lessons, real-world examples, and practical patterns for rolling out AI agents responsibly in AWS environments.
A big thank you to Raiffeisen Bank International AG for supporting the community and making the meetup possible!
